Life and Career
Manu's journey in the world of sports began during her young age where she used to play different games including boxing, tennis and also belongs from a sporting background as both father and mother are good at reknowned sport Huyen Langlon which is a traditional Manipuri martial art. In fact, watching 2016 Rio Olympics at the age of only 14 years she got inspired and opted to take shooting as a sport seriously. Her father, Ram Kishan Bhaker started this by investing in her training and equipment which was the beginning of his daughter's shooting career.
Achievements
- 2017 National Championships: Manu win nine gold medals, setting a national record in the 10m air pistol event by scoring 242.3 points, surpassing the previous record held by Olympic Heena Sidhu.
- Year 2018 National Games: At just 16, she won gold in the women's 10m air pistol event, setting a new National Games record of 240.9 points in the final.
- springtime Olympics 2018: She made history by winning a gold medal in the women's 10 m air pistol event, becoming the first Indian shooter to achieve this feat.
Olympic Journey
Manu Bhaker's Olympic journey have been marked by both triumph and adversity. After a disappointing experience at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she faced a gun defect, she bounced back with appreciable performances leading to her success at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
